Southwest District

Most members of the GFW PRSA chapter are unaware we are part of the Southwest District of PRSA, which covers 14 chapters across Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. Please see below for an explanation of the benefits and importance of the Southwest District for our chapter and members.

Q. What are the benefits individual PRSA members can expect from the Southwest District?

A. The key benefit the Southwest District provides to members and chapters is professional development and networking through the District conference. We also provide financial assistance to members who successfully complete the APR exam. For chapters, the District provides monthly affinity calls to chapter committee chairs to help facilitate sharing of best practices between chapters and we keep an updated speaker’s bureau for chapters looking for interesting speakers for chapter events.

Q. Why is it important for a member or chapter to be active in at the district level of PRSA?

A. Being active with the Southwest District means there is another level of resources available from which chapters and members can pull best practices. The 14 chapters in our District all have talented people in their ranks, and it’s easy to get so focused on our day-to-day business that we forget there are others in the area who we can call upon for assistance and ideas. On an individual level, volunteering at the District level is a great way to network and provides another path for those members who are interested in continuing their PRSA involvement outside their local chapter.

Q. How much of a time commitment does being a volunteer at the District level require?

A. The time commitment varies. Certainly being an officer requires a bit more than a committee volunteer, but generally you can dedicate as much time as you can spare. We always appreciate any time a member is able to provide in support of District activities.

Q. How do I become more involved at the District level?

A. If you are interested in volunteering at the District level, please contact Laura Van Hoosier, APR, by email at
